Prof. Dr Julián García Feijóo is Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of the San Carlos Clinical Hospital and Professor of Ophthalmology at Complutense University of Madrid.
Prof. García Feijóo became Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology in 2010, and Professor of Ophthalmology in 2002. He completed his residency at the Complutense University of Madrid in 1994.
Prof. García Feijóo has focused his research endeavours on the basic scientific, clinical, and surgical aspects of open angle glaucoma and congenital glaucoma, and has developed an integrated glaucoma service, which not only provides comprehensive clinical and surgical care to a large cohort of glaucoma patients, but is also geared towards innovative clinical research on medical therapy that has been internationally recognized with several awards.
Prof. García Feijóo has produced 330 original published research articles and directed 45 Thesis (6 International PhD) in the areas of glaucoma and degenerative ocular pathologies. Additionally, he has been editor of 27 books and author of 71 book chapters in other books. Prof. García Feijóo has been an invited professor in more than 320 conferences and round tables, and in more than 500 national and international courses, participating in 24 public and more than 150 private financed projects, acting as principal investigator (PI) in 101 of them.
Prof. García Feijóo is Past-President of the Spanish Glaucoma Society, served on the Executive Committee of the European Glaucoma Society and is General Secretary of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology. Prof. García Feijóo, is also coordinator of the Strategic Planning Board of Ophthalmology of the Madrid Health Service. He has successfully led a dynamic team to become a Spanish National Health Reference Center for Childhood Glaucoma (Ministry of Health) and the Department is member of the EU Reference Centre Network (ERN-EYE).
